About this role

This role will lead Hazel’s Data and Analytics teams. You’ll build and manage our team of highly effective technical and business professionals and will be responsible for recruitment, training, and day-to-day team management. You will work with organizational leaders to drive the use of data and insights to grow, optimize, and empower internal teams and inspire external partners.

Your team is charged with the design, development, maintenance, growth, quality, analysis, and presentation of Hazel’s growing data assets. This includes managing strategic data initiatives; fielding, prioritizing, and delivering analytics requests; and fostering a data-driven culture by supporting other teams in the consumption and use of our data. This includes resourcing key initiatives as well as the democratization of Hazel’s data via data presentation and self-service platforms. As Hazel sits at the intersection of three data-rich industries (education, healthcare, and tech), this work is vital to Hazel’s near- and long-term success.

What you’ll do

  • Spearhead the Data and Analytics function and align it with the company's strategic direction, setting ambitious goals and ensuring that the function's roadmap is broadly informed by key stakeholders, clearly communicated, and thoughtfully executed
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to understand their unique data and analytical needs and proactively designing innovative solutions to advance their work
  • Foster Hazel’s data-driven culture by encouraging best analytical practices and providing relevant training and support for other teams
  • Oversee major analytical deliverables ensuring that stakeholders receive accurate, high-quality products
  • Lead the development of compelling external-facing content that showcases our impact in partnership with our customer-facing teams; this may include conducting and synthesizing research in white papers and crafting powerful visualizations and data-driven narratives for customer presentations
  • Build an increasingly comprehensive and robust library of business intelligence assets (e.g., internal dashboards, self-serve data marts, templated customer reports)
  • Implement data lifecycle and agile frameworks to improve quality, responsiveness, and predictability of delivery
  • Oversee the development of robust long-term product and enterprise data strategy and execution against this roadmap with improvements in Hazel’s data architecture and infrastructure
  • Scale and support a high-performing team by equipping both managers and individual contributors with necessary skills and resources, codifying career pathways to champion professional development, and maintaining compliance with data privacy and security policies
  • Advance the team’s capabilities by supporting innovation (e.g., external partnerships, advanced analytics, research) and by generally supporting the function’s evolution from supporting the function's evolution to a center of excellence for meaningful action and insights
  • Partner with Hazel’s systems and data leaders in Product, Operations, and Engineering as an advocate of business and stakeholder needs for broader improvement in data and infrastructure

Your background

  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related Quantitative field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in highly analytical roles, with at least 5 years as an analytics functional leader
  • Proven experience with managing competing executive stakeholder needs and delivering on complex roadmaps to meet these needs with a great sense of accountability
  • Demonstrated success as an empathetic, growth-oriented people manager in teams of various sizes
  • Excellent quantitative problem solver with a laser focus on cracking a diverse range of business problems (bonus points for leadership experience in other functional roles (e.g., clinical operations, growth, account management, finance)
  • Detailed familiarity with healthcare data and operations
  • History scaling a function in a rapidly-growing business (scale-up experience preferred) and comfort with building and maturing functional processes
  • Ability to explain data and findings to colleagues and customers from various disciplines and varying degrees of data and statistical literacy.
  • Fluency with modern data tech stacks, analytical tools, and business intelligence platforms (especially Snowflake, dbt)
